Kayty

1994 – 2026

One of Slippery Rock University’s long time program horses will be greatly missed but will live on in the memories of many. Kayty was a longtime riding horse to Kaylee Van Gent before coming to Storm Harbor Equestrian Center. Kayty carried Kaylee many miles before slowing down and becoming a therapeutic riding horse for people with disabilities.

Kayty was an unusual breed to have for a therapeutic riding program, as she was a Mustang-Arabian cross. Her smooth and rhythmic gait made her an excellent candidate for Hippotherapy sessions. She traveled many miles as a Special Olympics summer game participant, participating in dressage, trail, equitation and barrel racing.

Not only did Kayty carry Special Olympic athletes to many medals, she also participated in Slippery Rock University’s English and Western equestrian clubs as a lesson and show horse. She loved to jump, go on trail rides or just chase other horses around in the pasture to make sure they knew she was in charge.

Kayty passed peacefully at the age of 32. She never lost her spunky mustang spirit and touched the lives of so many at the center. Her unicorn memories will especially be cherished!

Rest easy, sweet Kayty. You were deeply loved — and you will be deeply missed.
